Driver, 29, Docked Over Alleged Reckless Driving, Damaging Gate


The police on Thursday arraigned a 29-year-old driver Alimi Babatunde in an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged reckless driving. Babatunde, who lives at No. 36, Iremide St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and damaging property. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, said that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 7, at Fagbems Filling Station, Ijoko Road, Ota.

Babatunde, who lives at No. 36, Iremide St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and damaging property. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, said that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 7, at Fagbems Filling Station, Ijoko Road, Ota. He said that the defendant drove a car with registration number AKD-447 FF, in a dangerous manner and damaged the gate of Fagbems Filling Station valued at N200, 000. He said that the offences contravened sections 6(1) and 18 of the Federal Highway Act and Cap 135 of Revised Laws of the Federation, 2006. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government.

The case was adjourned until Feb. 13, for mention.
