Seven appear in court for disturbance of public peace

An Ilorin Senior Magistrates’ Court, on Monday, remanded seven men: Ganiyu Oba, Waheed Iyanda, Oba Abu, Yusuf Oba, Resheed Laro, Yisa Oba and Ahmed Jimoh in prison custody for alleged  disturbance of public peace.
Senior Magistrate A. M Ibrahim, who ordered the remand, advised their counsel to file a formal bail application for consideration.
Ibrahim  adjourned the case to Dec. 19 for mention.
The accused are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and disturbance of public peace, but they pleaded not guilty.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Nasir Yusuf, told the court that the case was reported to the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command by the people of Egbejila village, Ilorin.
Yusuf said that the accused persons, and one Taiye, now at-large, all from Egbejila village, Ilorin, terrorised the people of Egbejila village with cutlasses, knives and sticks.
He said that the accused persons were causing trouble and disturbing the peace in the village.
Yusuf said that during police investigation, it was revealed that the accused persons also ambushed one Alfa Idowu in his farm and beat him to a state of coma, before he was rescued by some villagers.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and  348 of the Penal Code  Law.
