Three survivors of the militants’ attack on the Imushin community of Ogijo town in Ogun State have died.
PUNCH Metro learnt that among
the three survivors who had just died was one Mariam, whose father,
Waheed Buhari, was shot dead at his doorstep, last Friday when the
militants struck.
The other two were identified as Hassan and Usman.
Our correspondent had reported that no fewer than 15 people were killed after more than 100 militants attacked the community.
The militants were said to be on a
reprisal after some officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad killed
two of their members in a hotel.
Our correspondent reported that the militants raided two hotels and looted more than 25 shops in the community.
A source in the community said on Sunday that three of those rushed to the hospital had died.
He said, “Three of those we rushed to
the hospital yesterday are dead. Mariam, whose father was shot dead, was
among them. Also, Hassan and Usman, who also sustained gunshot wounds,
died.
“People have deserted Lapete village and
many more are leaving in droves. We were told that the reason for the
severity of the attack was that the SARS killed an engineer working for
the militants. The engineer had been invited to a party at the hotel
when the SARS stormed the building and shot him dead. One other person
was killed when the SARS swooped on the hotel. The police did not also
release the engineer’s corpse.”
The source, who acknowledged police presence in the community, however, said the police were not doing enough.
He said only a few policemen were patrolling the troubled spots, adding that the police had not arrested any of the culprits.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations
Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said security had been beefed up in the
community, adding that policemen from the Lagos State Police Command had
joined in a crackdown on the militants.
