Rio Olympics: Nigerian ladies face Belarus


The Nigeria women basketball team taking part in the Rio Olympic Qualifiers holding in France had lively official photo sessions on Sunday ahead of their first match against Belarus on Monday (today). The game in the Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament billed for Nantes will take the jump ball at 6.pm local time. The Tigresses will face South Korea on Tuesday.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation released the names of the 12 players on Saturday just after they boarded the flight to France. The roster has two home-based players.
The selected players led by captain, Helen  Ogunjimi are Upe Atosu, Promise Amukamara, Sarah Ogoke, Ezinne Kalu and Joyce Ekworomadu. Also on the list are Uju Ugoka, Adaora Elonu, Ndidi Madu, Elem Ibiam, Chioma Udeaja and Olayinka Sanni.
Scott Nnaji was registered as the coach with Aderemi Adewunmi as his assistant and Mauro Procaccini, the technical adviser. Dr. Larai Garba who is the team doctor and Amara Enebe the physiotherapist are also in France where the Euro 2016 football started off on Friday.
The NBBF stated that the team departed for France Friday evening.
Two teams from each of the four groups will qualify for the quarter-finals with winners picking four of the five slots for the Rio Olympics. The remaining slot will be up for grabs after classification games among the quarter-final losers.
